Day 1 Keynote Speaker
Ameer Baraka
Ameer Baraka is an award-winning, Daytime Emmy-nominated actor, author, dyslexia advocate, and motivational speaker whose life is a powerful story of resilience and transformation. After overcoming illiteracy and being diagnosed with dyslexia while incarcerated in his twenties, Ameer dedicated his life to empowering others through education, mentorship, and advocacy.
He currently stars as Jeremiah on BET's ZATIMA and has appeared in American Horror Story: Coven, Tales of the Walking Dead, and A House Divided, sharing the screen with acclaimed actors including Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Eddie Griffin, and Forest Whitaker.
Beyond acting, Ameer mentors at-risk and incarcerated youth, speaks at universities and organizations across the country, and advocates for dyslexia awareness and education reform. He has testified before the U.S. Senate, spoken at Harvard University, and been featured by Forbes, ABC News, BET, and Oprah Winfrey's Blackboard Wars.
Today, Ameer inspires audiences nationwide with his message that education, perseverance, and faith can transform lives.
Day 2 Keynote Speaker
Dr. Jonathan Shook
Through his experience as a pediatrician and a father of four children, Dr. Jonathan Shook has developed a passion for caring for children and teens with ADHD and related conditions. Since 2017, Dr. Shook has been a part of Hattiesburg Clinic Connections, a multispecialty group of clinicians who evaluate and treat individuals with mental health differences.
Dr Shook's Presentation Description: Although ADHD has been described using various names in the past, the condition has been described in medical literature for over 200 years. However, research in the ADHD field has expanded exponentially in the last several decades. As a result, we now have a deeper understanding of the condition as well as more questions that will continue to be explored in the years ahead. In this keynote discussion, we will talk about some of the most recent findings regarding ADHD prevalence, symptoms, impact , and treatments. At the end of this session, the attendee should be able to: Understand trends in ADHD prevalence over time, between males and females, and among different age groups. Describe the common characteristics and struggles of individuals with ADHD, along with common co-occurring conditions. Discuss which ADHD treatments have solid evidence supporting their effectiveness.
About the Conference
The mission of the conference is to educate and inspire the community to better diagnose, treat and care for those with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and coexisting disorders. The conference will include sessions on a variety of other topics as well, including dyslexia, behavior management, autism, addiction, social media and mental health.
This event is an excellent opportunity for physicians, nurses and health care professionals to gain valuable insights into ADHD, autism, dyslexia and related conditions in children and adults. Whether attending live or virtually, participants can earn Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits and Continuing Education Units (CEUs). During the event, we will provide Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) for school administrators, counselors, nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, physician assistants, dyslexia therapists, psychologists, social workers, speech language pathologists, regular educators and special educators. We also encourage attendance by parents and caregivers to learn more about how to help their child with ADHD manage his or her condition.
